Native to Mexico and the southern United States, Prickly Pear cacti are prized for their hardiness and their tasty fruit. This prickly pear is great as a houseplant, as it isn’t as thorny as the average cactus, and less risky to have around pets and children. These cacti love sunlight and will do best in a bright, sunny window, or on a full sun balcony in the summertime. They are desert plants, so they can handle dry condo air with ease, and only need to be watered when their soil is completely dry. With the right conditions, they will bloom with large, bright yellow flowers, which turn into bright red fruit.
