Native to the Arabian Peninsula, aloe are succulent plants, meaning they have adapted to retain water and survive in drought conditions, so they will have no problem surviving a forgetful waterer! They do best when watered whenever the top few inches of soil have dried out. Just be careful not to water too often – the best way to kill a succulent is by overwatering. They love sun, and will thrive in a bright, sunny window or as a summertime patio plant. The gel from aloe plants can be harvested and applied to skin to soothe sunburns, cold sores and other minor wounds, or as a moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated. Aloe plants are also a natural air purifier that absorb carbon dioxide and emit oxygen during the night, so keeping one around can lead to a better night's sleep!
