Native to the Middle East and Western Asia, the Fig is a fruiting plant that thrives in a bright light. In Southern Ontario, Figs do best when grown outside during the spring and summer and brought indoors to go dormant during the winter months. They are one of the first fruits grown by humans, and were common food sources in ancient Greece and Rome. The fruit can be eaten fresh or dried and is commonly used in baked goods and jams.
